Obtaining a visa

Please contact the project office in case you need any assistance.

Participants are requested to make their own visa arrangements. Please be informed that there will be no issuance of visas upon-arrival. Most overseas visitors require a valid visa for Germany. Please see the visa requirements.

Germany is a member of the Schengen Area. Participants are requested to apply for visas six weeks in advance (May 11, 2015) of the Berlin Forum in light of the processing time of approx. 30 working days. We recommend that you contact the nearest German Embassy or Consulate as soon as possible to ascertain the requirements for entry into Germany and to schedule a personal appointment. The address and contact information of the nearest Embassy or Consulate can be found here.

Please also check whether you need a transit visa for countries in which you may have to transfer/stop over during your trip to/from Berlin.

Information on customs regulations for entering Germany can be found on German Custom Administration.

Additional information: The passport expiration date must be greater than six months from the date of entry for the German visa.

Transport at/from the airport

There will be a shuttle for conference participants from the airport Berlin-Tegel (TXL). The schedule will be published here soon.

Public Transportation in Berlin

Public transport

(More and detailed information: Website of BVG)

The Berlin tariff area is subdivided into zones A, B and C. Usually you just need Zone A and B.

Buying tickets

Ticket machines are located at all train, underground and urban rail stations. They accept both cash and EC cards. Please make sure that you validate your ticket before entering the train.

You can use the buses, trams and urban rail and underground trains of all transport companies within the Berlin fare zones (A, B and C), including regional rail transport and ferries.

Single Ticket: (Berlin A+B: 2,60 €) is the best option for people who travel by public transport only occasionally. Single Tickets entitle you to travel with any number of changes towards your destination via a direct travel route or one necessitated by works or other network alterations. They are valid for a maximum of two hours.

Day ticket: (Berlin A+B: 6,70 €): Travel as often as you want by public transport for a whole day on the date printed on the ticket or from validation of the ticket until 3.00 a.m. on the following day.

7-Day Ticket: (Berlin A+B: 28,80 €) is valid for seven consecutive calendar days. Validity begins on the first day of the validity period printed on the ticket or from the time of validation and ends on the seventh calendar day, at midnight.

Transportation by taxi

Please note, that the costs of a taxi are not covered by the event organizers.

The taxis in Berlin are yellow/white and you can either call them, stop them on the street or go to one of the many taxi stands, which you find all over the city.

The number of an eco-taxi service is: +49 (0)30 210 10 20.

The duration and the costs of a trip by taxi depend on time and distance. Taxies use a meter.

The cost from Tegel Airport (TXL) to the hotel will be approximately 25 EUR and the distance is around 12 kilometers (~20 minutes).

The cost from Schönefeld Airport (SXF) to the hotel will be approximately 35-40 EUR and the distance is around 22 kilometers (~30 minutes).

The language of the event will be English. Translation to Spanish will be provided.

Sustainable event management

Please note that we design the event as resource-efficient as possible. Therefore, we encourage the use of recyclable material for the conference and provide many documents in digital form.
